How GoodDayTo judges baseball weather
Baseball needs a usable stretch of weather, not one pleasant moment at first pitch. GoodDayTo therefore scores every continuous hour in the duration you choose. Rain can interrupt play and may affect the infield or outfield, while heat, UV, wind and gusts matter during a game that lasts several hours.
The scorer still compares possible start times and can recommend a better later block. What changed is that a rainy final hour can no longer be averaged away by two dry hours. NOT TODAY is the maximum verdict when the selected game window contains at least 0.5 mm of forecast precipitation in total, or any selected hour reaches 70% rain probability. WAIT is the maximum when the window contains at least 0.1 mm, or any hour reaches 40% probability. A dry, mild block can still return GO.
These are conservative GoodDayTo planning guardrails, not official league, school or venue rainout rules. Probability of precipitation describes the chance that measurable precipitation occurs at the forecast point; it does not mean it rains for that percentage of the hour. ⚾ A practical example
Suppose 14:00 and 15:00 look dry, but the 16:00 forecast shows a 75% rain probability and 0.5 mm of rain. For a three-hour game, GoodDayTo returns NOT TODAY for that 14:00–17:00 block instead of allowing the two dry hours to soften the last one into WAIT or GO. It can still point to another complete block if one exists.
Match the duration to the real plan
Use one hour for a short practice, three hours for a typical game-sized block, or five hours when warm-up, delays and a longer event need to be covered. The Planner also accepts requested durations and uses the same full-window rain logic. A shorter dry gap is not presented as a substitute for a longer request.

What the score can—and cannot—know
GoodDayTo can read hourly air-weather forecasts. It cannot inspect drainage, standing water, clay or turf moisture, puddles, field maintenance, lighting, lightning protocols, league rules, umpire decisions, school cancellations, postponements or venue operations. Earlier rain can leave a field unplayable even when the selected future window is dry.
For organised games, check the official team or venue update before travelling. Major League Baseball’s published ground-rules explanation is one example of why the responsible home team or umpire—not a forecast tool—makes the operational decision. Youth, school and local leagues may use different procedures.
Nearby context only reports mapped baseball fields. It does not prove a field is open, bookable, maintained, floodlit or safe. GoodDayTo also does not model wind direction at a particular ballpark, predict ball flight, estimate performance or provide betting advice.
How to use the verdict
GO means the complete selected block stays below the rain caps and the measured heat, UV and wind conditions look favourable. Confirm the field and game status separately.
WAIT means the block contains a smaller rain signal or mixed conditions, or a clearly better complete window is available. Recheck closer to first pitch because shower timing can change.
NOT TODAY means a strong rain signal or serious weather cap affects the selected block. Follow official warnings and the organiser’s decision; never use the score to override a closure or lightning procedure.
